Follow our 4 Simple Steps below to get your business on Twitter
Make an account
Now this may sound so obvious that it’s not worth mentioning, but this is our simple guide so we will take you through step by step. Go to Twitter and you will come to this page.
Next, click the sign up button.
Once you have clicked the sign up button it will bring you to this page.
Enter your name, your business email and a multi-user friendly password if more than one person will be accessing the account. Don’t worry about the name you enter here being your twitter handle, you can change that once you’ve set up your profile. It’s important to point out that unlike platforms such as Facebook and Linkedin, your personal account is your business account. You don’t have to create a personal account then create a business page. Just sign up and tailor your profile to your business…
Add Profile Information
Choose your twitter handle: Make your twitter handle short and memorable. This will make sure your potential followers can find you easily. A good idea for this is your business name as it keeps your brand and profile consistent throughout. It’s also good practice to keep your usernames consistent across all social media platforms where possible!
Add a profile picture: Make sure that your image gives a clear representation of your brand to sustain your social identity. Your image needs to be recognisable, even when it is a small image. Using you’re business logo is a great way to achieve this. The example below shows our twitter handle and also our logo as our profile picture to show you what we mean.
Add a header image: Your header image is much larger than your profile picture therefore you have much more room for design. The image should be aesthetically pleasing to engage your followers to potentially gain you customers. Also, like your profile image, it should represent your brand or the sector that you are in. Check out Googles header image example below
Add a bio: You have 160 characters to tell your target audience who you are and what you are about. Due to your character restrictions, be specific and think of your target audience. If you can get potential customers to follow you because they like the sound of what you do, your half way to creating a really strong Twitter profile! Another thing to consider would be use 1 or 2 hashtags you think your target audience will be using for example we may use ‘#SEO’ or ‘#SocialMedia’.
Add website link: Also insert a link to your business website. This way, potential customers can easily navigate through to your website if they want to. The link goes into a separate ‘website’ field on your twitter page. All you have to do is copy in your business URL and you’re done!
Connect with others
Now that you have a profile that represents you and your brand. Start following! One of the main things you want to achieve on Twitter is making connections with other people. Be that; potential customers, other business in your industry or leading people within your field.
Quick tip: A way to follow many relevant people with the same interests as you is through twitter lists. You can subscribe to other peoples lists or make your own, either way it’s a great to get your tweets in front of people that could be interested in your business!
Remember: The aim is to make a connection with people that are going to be interested in what you have to offer. It’s not just about how many followers you have, it’s about having followers that you can turn into customers!
Now you’re all set, start tweeting…
Keep your tweets concise and casual. This helps you connect with your audience on a personal level and makes sure that you stay within your 160 character limit. For your first tweet, twitter will provide your first hashtag (#myfirstTweet). We would advise using the #myfirstTweet as that is popular hashtag that twitter users look through. Also go with something unique and relevant to your business as well. The secret to the success of growing your business on twitter is to be present. Post high quality, engaging content regularly to gain followers and keep existing ones coming back to your page!
